A ‘Sign’ Of The Political Times

The removal of political campaign signs is causing a war of words between two local politicians.

On Saturday, July 24, State House Dist. 1 Republican candidate Greg Brown Jr. and his wife were video taped removing a set of his primary opponent’s—Doug Broxson—campaign signs from a property just north of Milton.

Kevin C. Brown, campaign manager for Broxson, says a local supporter set up a camera in the woods of the property, which sits near the corner of Highways 87 and 89, after numerous Broxson signs had been removed in recent weeks.

“He was there setting it up and had just got it going, when Brown and his wife showed up. It was about 8:30 p.m.”

The video was placed on Youtube, which Brown says was handed over to Santa Rosa County law enforcement for investigation.

But Brown Jr. says authorities never contacted him because there was no validity to the claim.

“The people that put up the camera were trespassing on the property,” he says. “I feel this is dirty politics as usual.”

Don Dewrell, an attorney in Okaloosa County, owns the property. Brown Jr. says Dewrell gave him permission to take down Broxson’s signs and put his up.

“I’m in the process of getting a statement from (Dewrell),” he says. “I feel like we have more important issues to deal with than this (in Northwest Florida).”

    Jesse,
The article is wrong in listing Greg Brown as State Congressional Dist. 1 Republican candidate.
There is no such thing as a State Congressional Dist. 1.
He is a State Representative, Dist. 1 candidate.
Pensacola is District 2 surrounded by District 3 in turn surrounded by District 1.

Hasn’t Pensacola endured enough hardship and deception in the past few years.

There was Ivan and Dennis that caused the hardship.

Jump ahead a few years and Pensacola is dealing with the Gulf of Mexico Oil Disaster. Lot’s of deception still going on with this event.

Now Pensacola has a man, Mr. Brown, sneaking around in the dark of the night stealing political signs of his opponent. Think about that folks. Imagine what he might do if elected. It’s a rather scary thought, this guy with political power.

This guy has no honor and can not be trusted. I sure hope the citizens of Pensacola can see through his ridiculous response and tell this guy at the polls Pensacola will no longer put up with politicians such as Mr. Brown.

Word is that the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office were at Greg Brown’s house earlier today. The Deputies might have found some Doug Broxson campaign signs there, that Greg says he must have “lost”.

Wonder how many signs were there? Wonder if the signs the Deputies found were ALL from last night, or if there were other Doug Broxson signs, from other places that somehow “made their way” to Greg’s home?

Fox News (Mobile?) might have been there with video cameras rolling!!!!

The property were the video of Brown taking the signs is owned by Mr. Dewrell, who just happens to own a lot of property in Santa Rosa County — some of it with Charles Clary of Destin. Is this THE “Charlie” Clary that represented Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties in the FL State Senate a few years back?

Stay tuned, this is going to REEEEAAAALLL interesting!!!

  4. Brian C. Abrams says:

The video shows at least four signs being removed.
How many did Broxson have up there or did Brown just remove everyones signs?

One does not worry about fingerprints if you have permission.
Or maybe they do if the permission was granted after the fact?

  5. Steve B says:

Watch the video. Young Greg Brown is as nervous as a cat at a dogfight. He is looking over his shoulder and acting like he is putting up his own campaign signs. If he was doing what he says the landowner had told him, why would he tell his wife that he was worried about “her fingerprints being on the signs”? In the PNJ interview, Greg Brown is quoted as saying about Doug Broxson’s signs: “I disposed of them,” he said. “Quite honestly, I may have put them in my own trash can at home. I am not completely sure.”
That’s either a blatant lie, or he doesn’t have the memory to find his way to Tallahassee, much less represent the citizens from Santa Rosa, Escambia & Okaloosa County. As a matter of fact, Greg Brown had less than an hour to spare when he was driving to Tallahassee to qualify to run for State Rep! By the way, did Brown drop-out of FSU too?

I know where that intersection is and it has many campaign signs. Why did Brown only take Broxson signs?
I’m sure it is the right-of-way anyhow. I don’t see how Brown can spin his way out of this one.

  8. Jon says:

Give me a break. If you watch the video and listen to what Greg and his wife were saying. They knew what they were doing was wrong. “Dirty Politics”
Watch the video and ask yourself…….Is that the kind of leadership we need.
