The state of Florida has received $50 million from BP, $40 million of which was given to the Department of Environmental Protection. The IN has acquired documents that show how DEP spent the money.

I would like to know the name of the person that approved the amounts for each of these payouts. I would also like to know the names of the vendors who received the payments.
“Consultant Contracts on developing booming plans: $974,000″
Isn’t that odd? Typically, when a consultant or contractor seeks approval to perform a service or task in exchange for compensation a written proposal is submitted for approval that includes the manner in which the task will be performed, the materials used, the time frame in which the task will be completed and the consultant/contractor’s fee. An itemized list is often required. So, why the heck is the state PAYING ANYONE for booming plans???
I can’t wait to see what Grover has to post about this!!!
Thank you for your continued dedicated and investigative reporting on this issue. I am appalled by these inequities. We must demand an explanation from Tallahassee, but is our legislative delegation up to the task?
Is this correct? Franklin County with almost zero beach and oil impact got more than Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Gulf, Wakulla and Jefferson COMBINED?
Bay County which had very little loocal impact got more than Escambia, Santa Rosa and Oklaoosa COMBINED?
Are we going to have another round of indictments next year? Sounds to me like the local little piggies were at the Tallahassee Trough again with truckloads of money being handed out to political friends.
There again it shows how well thought of Escambia County is in Tallahassee. Does the phrase “Redheaded stepchild out in the back 40″ ring a bell. By all rights the amount given each “affected” county should lessen as it gets closer to Tallahassee since there was less physical impact from the oil in those counties. This smells worse than the petroleum product that invaded us. DEP needs to do some “splaining”! Rick you are the man for this job… do your magic!
Closer to Tallahassee.
Jefferson has 7 miles of seashore and still got more than Escambia.
The 3 counties farthest from the spill received over 1/2 of the money?
One of them, Franklin, recived over 1/3 of the $40 million?
I think a detailed explanation from DEP is needed.
