Escambia County Commissioner Kevin White showed his lack of maturity once again over the Pensacola Children’s Chorus’s request for a reduction in rent for its performances at the Pensacola Civic Center. White is still upset that the citizens would question his stewardship of county monies and hire Taxwatch to review county spending.
White was the board chairman when the county failed to collect over $1 million from Allied Waste. He was the chairman when BOCC refused to consider a gas tax to secure funding for ECAT and that service almost went under. Yet he attacks a nationally recognized children’s program that has produced TV,film, music, opera and Broadway stars.
If he didn’t want to help the non-profit, then so be it, but don’t attack it simply because someone has questioned your leadership on other issues. Will the BOCC ever move beyond such pettiness? Probably not until after the 2008 elections.
It’s time White grows up.

Com.Whitehead has shown his cold heart once again by not wanting to give the childrens choirs a break on civic center rental.When this county has 300 plus kids working everyday to learn musical skills instead of running the streets chasing after crack and gangter activity they should be praised. Whitehead and Kevin white have no clue as to how to lead a county by setting a good exsample and helping this program out with a rent reduction.Whitehead did not even want to give a useless trailer to a church hit by a tornado. Perhaps when he went on his hunting trip with Gorden Godfrey ,they should have read the beatitudes instead of hunting an illegal baited field without a license.Comman sense and caring make for great leadership,White and Whitehead need to get some.

It was no problem and did they ever look at the cost of the the bloated staff working in the new courthouse or the requirements for the lush new county commisioner offices.
Those costs were justified and staff and commissioners deserve it no matter how much it costs the taxpayers and whatever else we have to cut to build it?
I’m just wishing I could be one of those commission assistants that makes as much as the boss with all the perks and retirement plan.

rick- you might want to clarify what you are trying to say- I don’t see how White was being immature. I am not saying he is or he isn’t- just that you are unclear in your explanation….i didn’t read the article, and your snippet doesn’t show me what you are implying
Silverfox, The county has NO responsibility for the maintenance or management of the Saenger. We are willing participants in the renovation due to its prominence in the downtown area and its historical significance. I stand by my statement that cutting government programs is great…as long as you don’t cut mine. That summarizes the public’s view of cutting services. Many, much more worthwhile programs were cut during the budget process and this one should have been submitted for consideration then. Rather, they waited and asked for a special apppropriation hoping to avoid the cutback process.
Appleyard has every right to question where and how counnty money is being collected and spent. White and I also think Whitehead were wrong to bring in to question Taxwatch when Appleyard was requesting a break in in civic center rental. The lack of county forsigth was what caused the choirs to have to go the civic center in the first place. Shame on Kevin White.
