ECHL TERMINATES ICE PILOTS MEMBERSHIP
In a statement released by the ECHL on June 23, 2008, the membership of the Pensacola Ice Pilots has been terminated.
This week the Ice Pilots will mail full refunds to all fans on their season ticket deposits and parking. In a statement released by Ice Pilots President Greg Schuh, “I am certainly disappointed in the decision handed down by the league this morning. If we have any further news or updates on the situation of hockey in Pensacola, we will notify our fans.”

Has Pensacola ever supported (successfully) a sports team?
Check the history books.
I’ve wondered how attendance was at those games. Is Pensacambia capable of supporting 3 sports teams?
[...] Rick Outzen reported, the ECHL has terminated the league membership of our Pensacola Ice [...]
Ever since the Ice Pilots prior management started taking steps to boost their profit on the backs of Pensacola interest in hockey in Pensacola. This is just another step-back in the world of professional sports in Pensacola.
From the statement:
“The termination of the Membership comes as a result of the Pensacola ownership group notifying the ECHL that it did not intend to play in 2008-09 or any season thereafter. Failure to ice a team for play is grounds for automatic termination under the ECHL Bylaws.”
So, I’m confused. Why is the team president disappointed if it is the team ownership’s fault that the membership was terminated?
Either way, this really sucks. We need the CMP now more than ever.
Just two or three months ago Ice Pilots Mgt was going to buy the Civic Center as a negotiating tool…..they scammed the whole county. Sorry for the team and the fans but glad the scmmers are out!
