Pace principal Frank Lay received a letter from Congressman Jeff Miller and two other members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, J. Randy Forbes and Mike McIntyer. According to the letter, the CPC has 54 members. The daily newspaper’s headline states the caucus backs Frank Lay, but that is not what this letter says.
The trio is writing as members of the CPC, but not for the CPC. Miller, Forbes and McIntyer state that they are “standing in prayer and support as you face your trial on Thursday because of an offering of prayer.” There is no mention of checks for Lay’s defense fund being included in the envelope.

Publius, thank you so much. Such an intelligent response. And right on target.
Due to my warped sense of values, I prefer not to stoop to the level of name calling.
I never found that it worked that well in elementary school, so I sought other methods to communicate my opinions.
it would be courageous to be christian if there were a downside. but this is another easy stand for miller to make– taking a stand for christian prayer in school in the heart of the bible belt? it’s easy to be courageous when there is no enemy around. courage is for people who stand for their beliefs when everyone else is against them. brave christians will stand for their faith in distant places where christians are persecuted, like china. but supporting the religious right where the christian coalition is a dominant political force is not courageous. it is craven. if the apostle paul were that courageous he would never have preached to the gentiles. to call jeff miller courageous for this shames the sacrifices of true martyrs for christ.
ah,hum. Amen, Betty

I don’t check my brain at the door when I worship and I do reserve the right to call anyone who tramples upon my rights or those of my children idiots and bigots. Do you honestly believe it is OK to deny my kids their civil rights as long as you are polite about it? You people have a warped sense of values.
Btw, we have done the Frank Lay issue ad nauseum.
No comment on the Acorn video, Rick?

Unlike the Bee Gee’s song, “How Deep Is Your Love?”, I don’t believe this is an issue about “How Deep Is Your Christ?” in regards to Congressman Miller or the personnel at Pace High School. This is simply an issue or whether or not someone disobeyed a federal judge. If the principal pulled a Roy Moore, where he knew what the courts said and chose to disobey it anyway, then like Roy Moore, he needs to be held accountable because while God’s law does reign supreme to the end of time, we are still in a country of men and follow the laws created by such men.
Ironic that those campaigning on an anti-Big Government theme, who contend that government should get out of our private lives, would seek to tell our children who to pray to in our public schools. But then, the two main tenants of the religious right wing movement are, if not in direct contradiction to one another, extremely inconsistent. On the one hand, the movement feverishly advocates for legislation restricting civil liberties in the name of Christian morals and values. For example, if the religious right had its way, the following would be banned via constitutional amendment: gay marriage, reproductive rights, privacy, pornography, etc. These restrictive measures would take place to protect our supposedly Christian nation from the so-called disease of liberalism. But on the other hand, the right wing vehemently opposes economic restrictions, i.e. redistribution of wealth, higher taxes for the wealthy, etc. They typically argue that charity ought to be left up to the individual, not the government. Although conservatives purport that less government is good government, it seems to be OK for government to act on the behalf of Christianity in regard to social issues, but never economic ones. However, in Matthew 6:24 it is written, “You cannot serve both God and money”. In Luke 18:22, Jesus even goes as far as to say, “One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” The clarity is undeniable, if you argue that government ought to advocate and legislate Christian social values, they ought to do the same for Christian economic values. Unfortunately for right wing Christian conservatives, these values sound a lot like socialism, an ideology they would spit on if personified.

For the anonymous above asked:
“Why is anyone who chooses to believe in Christ named a coward? And why do those who choose not to believe in Christ have such mean spirits?”
I am a Christian but I do not force my beliefs on others nor do I insist on teaching your children my personal beliefs. Why can’t you idiots see that? I happen to be a Catholic, is it ok if I come over to your house and tell your kids they will burn in hell if they don’t convert? WMJS? (What Makes Jesus Sick)? Bigots and narrow minded fools who practice bigotry in His name.

Why is anyone who chooses to believe in Christ named a coward? And why do those who choose not to believe in Christ have such mean spirits? To each their own, so stop condemning others for their beliefs. It is a PERSONAL issue.
This poses a lot of assumptions. For one, none of these people have been called cowards because they believe in Christ. Second, I see nothing indicating that those who oppose the violation of the U.S. Constitution by the principal and the coach don’t believe in Christ. And to quote, “It is a PERSONAL issue.” EXACTLY! I see that you do actually ‘get it’. It is their personal belief and they are not allowed, per the terms of the Constitution, to promote their PERSONAL beliefs upon those in attendance of government functions, such as schools. We can all have our personal religious beliefs, and also have the Constitution, but you can’t violate the Constitutional rights of other Americans in order to promote your personal beliefs to a captive audience in a government facility or function. Express your PERSONAL beliefs on your PERSONAL time.
He’s an absolute coward. Miller is supporting a man who willingly broke a court order by a federal judge! This is not about praying. It never was. It was about Lay and a few teachers at Pace High so emboldened by their so called faith that they could tell a few Jewish students that they were going to hell because they didn’t believe in Jesus! Do you think that’s fair? Do you think that’s okay to do? If you do then you need to move to Idaho and set up your own Nazy country! I shouldn’t be told how wrong my beliefs are because I’m Jewish and neither should my children! I’m tired of Christians thinking it’s okay to trample the rights of others just because they don’t believe the same thing you do!
bless them “God bless you, God bless the USA”, B.H. Obama
60 Members of Congress Signed the letter. If you ever bothered to check a fact you would know that information

Another great reason to replace Miller.
Gee, what a surprise! Miller hiding behind Jesus’ skirts, wow! What a brave man!
