The New York Observer reports “…Morning Joe is struggling to hang on to viewers. So far this fall, from Sept. 1 through Nov. 13, according to The Observer’s analysis of Nielsen numbers, Morning Joe has averaged 357,000 total viewers and 124,000 in the 25- to 54-year-old demographic—down 35 percent and 43 percent, respectively, from the same time period last year.”
MSNBC’s president, Phil Griffin, dismisses any problems and tells The Observer, “The numbers are down, and they’re probably down for everybody….You can’t find anything like it in the morning…Morning Joe gets more buzz, and that’s because we actually talk about what’s going on in the world that’s important. I believe in the show.”

I try not to get too involved in politics but agree with Mike here and agree with his comment on the NBM group receiving money from a group with no direct financial interest ” no big deal”.
Who has to watch fox news to realize the outlook is not great?
Stimulus money not surprisingly has been doled out without results in some cases resulting in revelations of mistakes in the reporting.
Billions spent and nothing to track where the jobs are?
I’d be curious to see some demographic breakdowns for the ratings numbers. Not to completely stereotype, but many of the older, more conservative folks I know watch Fox News and all the Fox ‘News’ talk-shows like O’Reilly and Hannity and whatever the crying guy’s name is that escapes me at the moment. However, a lot of folks my age (mid 30′s) and younger who are, generally speaking, less conservative, don’t get their news from television. It may be that the networks that might appeal to the younger generations are losing share to the internet and other media (like the alt-weekly newspaper). This may explain why Fox’s gains are disproportionate to the other network’s losses.
Now that Imus is back everyone is watching him! Morning Joe is a snooze!!!!!!!
Point conceded, Ross.
Honest,ly. I said I don’t know where he got them and couldn’t corroborate them myself neither on the net or on his website, so like most stuff you see, don’t believe it unless you have done your own research and can prove it to yourself. The other numbers though were from Neilsen. They are the horses’ mouth on ratings.
Ross, the problem with your figures is simple, they were presented by Bill O’Reilly. The man lies.
I just saw O’Reilly list some TV news ratings, not sure what the time period was,I presume it was prime time. It showed FOX up 5%, CNN down 70+%, and MSNBC down 60+%. Draw your own conclusion as to why that is. Wish I could find where those numbers came from, I gave up searching. But it seems that for all those decreases in the other two networks, that FOX should be up more than 5%.
By the numbers though, for yesterday, it looks like this:
P2+ Prime Time
FNC – 3,490,000 viewers
CNN – 672,000 viewers
MSNBC –860,000 viewers
CNBC – 185,000 viewers
HLN –676,000 viewers
CNBC, looks like their viewership is getting down to employees, friends, and relatives.
Getting back to FOX’s increase. Could it have something to do with their slogan “fair, balanced and unafraid” or their content? Or maybe they’re just hypnotizing their viewers with subliminal messages? Or maybe it’s because Obama has been criticizing them and they’re not afraid to do the job that the rest of the media should do, but won’t?
Anyway, it isn’t just Morning Joe that is slipping. It’s the whole network. After all, according to Chris Matthews, you know, it’s not a crime to be calling alQaeda. Stuff like that will earn a ratings boost in Dearbornistan and nowhere else.
I have 3 cups every morning, wouldn’t miss those for the world.
Joe has onvisouly become very bored with the show. He seems to be absent more than he’s present and when he is there he seems distant and annoyed. He’s also back to the grunge look with a 2-day growth, jeans and crappy sports coats. Typical of Joe, he finds a new cushy job and moves on when he becomes bored with it. I always considered him an over-grown frat boy and this continued behavior confirms it.
Who cares?
