Johnson pre-files

Press Release:

City Councilman Larry B. Johnson pre-filed today to run for re-election to the Pensacola City Council, District 4. Johnson, whose district includes parts of East Hill, Cordova, and East Pensacola Heights, said he was proud of the work of the current City Council, and hoped to serve another term and keep working for his constituents.

“It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Pensacola on the City Council for the past year, and I feel like we’ve accomplished a lot. We’ve implemented citywide recycling, expanded the Roger Scott tennis complex, and have worked to make our neighborhoods more family-friendly,” said Johnson. “But there’s a lot more that we need to do,” Johnson continued. “I want to keep working to develop our waterfront, create incentives for businesses to locate or expand here, and encourage sustainable growth and green building practices where possible.”

Johnson said he planned to start campaigning in earnest after the first of the year, but decided to pre-file now to make his intentions known to his constituents. “I really enjoy rolling up my sleeves and working to help the people in my district and my city,” Johnson said. “I’m filing today to let the citizens of District 4 know that they can count on me to keep working for them.”

The City Council and Mayor will all be up for election on Primary Day, August 24, 2010. If a runoff is needed, it will be held on General Election Day, November 2, 2010.

  1. Hmmmmmmm says:

    That’s nice. Thanks.

  2. Larry B. Johnson says:

To Hmmmmmmm: This problem has been researched before and has been determined to be shorts or breaks in the underground electrical wiring to these lights. To repair or replace the wiring will require the excavation of the parking lot with an estimated cost to be approximately $20K. As funding is not available in the present budget, it is our intent to ask for the funding in the upcoming 2011 budget.

  3. Hmmmmmmm says:

I did send emails. Maybe they were caught up in a spam filter.

Thanks for taking care of this. It’s not just one light. It is all of them.

  4. Mike says:

    While checking lights.

Historic St Michaels hasn’t had lights since Ivan.

Watch crossing from the grass lot beside the civic center.

    It’s deadly dark .

Response to Hmmmmmmmmm: I have forwarded your concerns to the City Manager & Parks and Recreation Department. In the future, please contact me at ljohnson@ci.pensacola.fl.us with anything I can be of assistance with. Thanks, Larry

  6. Jason Clark says:

Maybe Larry Johnson doesn’t use the boat launch at night. You can’t blame the council member for every blown light bulb in their district. If you don’t bring it to his or her attention, they have know way of knowing about every single one.
Now…should someone have noticed that the lights were out and fixed them? Probably so. But I would like to think that my council representative is doing something more than riding around at night looking for blown street lights.

  7. James says:

Have you called Johnson or the parks & rec director to ask about the lights?

  8. Hmmmmmmm says:

Lights haven’t worked at the boat launches in bayview park for a year. Guess they are putting that fee to good use. Maybe Larry can roll up his sleaves and change a lightbulb.
