We are hearing that people who signed the Marty Donovan petition are upset because they were told the petition was a vote to stop the park. They now realize it’s only the bond financing that they are voting on and the city council will simply approve another plan, if the first plan is rescinded. Talk about a real bait and switch.
The fact is the time to stop construction was in May 2009 when Donovan could have challenged the council votes for the contracts with the master developer, Studer and/or UWF. But for some reason Marty didn’t do that. Instead, he passed on those crucial, important votes.
He is now forced to focus only on the bond financing plan. The contracts signed by the City obligate the City to providing $40 million towards the project. That doesn’t change even if the petitions are successful in forcing a referendum and somehow Donovan can convince the voters who rejected him 2008 to now agree with him.

I think Marty has asked for all petitions to be turned into his office by noon today.
Rick, I have some friends who signed the petition (500+) and they were told it was to make the park be built faster. Is there still time to have their names removed from the losers petition.
We can afford the park, John. I don’t see how you think we can’t.
Politics is politics. The point I believe is that you can’t spend what you don’t have. The unions got pretty contracts a few years ago, and now the City wonders where they will get the money since they blew it all on pretty stuff, and high salaries for the big wigs. Learn to spend within your means. Thats what you guys are always telling the masses when we have trouble with our taxes. Now you need to get this scrap bowl built and can’t figure out how. Well since you say you have to build it, why don’t you wait till you can afford it.
Bill,
You don’t live in Florida any more so you haven’t gotten the automated phone calls from Donovan or seen his spots on television or heard him on the radio. For him, this petition isn’t about the bonds. But at least you agree it is a lie for Donovan to tell voters that the petition is about stopping the park.
Why would Donovan need to tell such a lie? Aren’t you really grasping at straws to discredit him.
Why don’t you get a copy of the petition and see exactly what it says? Then you will really know the answer!
