I spoke with Supervisor of Elections David Stafford about how a voter can take their name off a Donovan petition if they no longer want to be a part of it. Stafford said that there is no procedure under state law or the city charter that allows a voter to revocate their signature.
He suggested the best alternate is ask Mr. Donovan and the other people who have maintaining the petitions to return your signature card to you. You can email the PAC at TheChair@no48milliondebt.com or call Donovan Realty 432-6104. If they refuse to return your signature card, please contact me, rick@inweekly.net. We will have our attorney John Asmar intervene on your behalf at no cost to you.
The petition process is an important right under the city charter. However, people should not sign the petition under false pretenses. The Donovan petition is only about the bonds that were approved Oct. 8, 2009. The petition doesn’t force a referendum on the community maritime park. The time for that petition was in April 2009.

If these people come to your door, you do have a right under Florida law to blow their brains out if you feel threatened. I had one come knock on my door and the door opened. I was very scared for my life and ran to get my husbands gun but when I got to the door the person had left. They left a postcard instead. I know had a face to face conflict with them they would have threatened to do harm unless I signed it.
“The museum isn’t being built ”

Tell that to President Bense at UWF. Construction is scheduled for 2010 and she will be the first one to tell you so as she drives the bulldozer over the remains of Donno’s Creep Corps.

Thank you for your concern for my mother. She’s 79 years old. I wasn’t with her on Saturday. My third grader was. I was at the Kids area with my other children. I’m sure my mom didn’t misunderstand because she told me what the men at the table in front of Donovan Realty were saying. She was told she should sign the petition because the City isn’t building the museum any more and showed her a drawing without the museum on it. I told her exactly what you write – that bond money never was for the museum. The map she was shown wasn’t the entire project. She really believes those men misled her. I guess we can play semantics with what the men meant and what my mother heard—but she is the one who was there and she says they lied to her.
Dear me Ms. Haddigan, you let your mom sign it? I’m astonished. Are you sure your mom didn’t misunderstand? The museum isn’t being built (and this is the catch) with the bond money.
My mom is upset. She signed the petition at the Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival because the men at the table told her that there wasn’t going to be a maritime museum. Then I showed her the drawings and the articles on the museum. She feels that she was lied to.

There is no sense of desperation here. I have no issue with the petition process. However, people are upset that the Donovan hasn’t told them the truth. If a voter wants to revoke his/her signature, then he/she should be allowed to do it. It’s that simple. If the 15 percent of the city voters want different bonds to be used for the park, then we can have a referendum on the bonds. I’m just curious what Marty’s better bond plan is.

Taking Marty apart with the real facts isn’t hard.
Sounds like Betty is on Rick, Mort, and Colliers payroll.
Sounds like Mr. FUBAR is on Marty’s payroll.
“…our attorney John Asmar intervene on your behalf at no cost to you.”
Sounds like a desperation move in an attempt to avoid the possibility that Doovan just might come up with the required signatures.
