If someone knocks on your door asking you to sign the Donovan petition, ask them what is their bond plan? The City is obligated by contract to provide $40 million for the Community Maritime Park. What type of bonds does Mr. Donovan want to have issued, instead of the issuance approved by the City Council on October 8?
The bonds have to be issued – the petition doesn’t negate the City’s obligations to Maritime Park Development Partners, University of West Florida or the Studer Group. The petition can’t reverse the 2006 referendum.
So what is their bond plan?

Its not about what you want or believe should happen, its what is happening right now,the REAL POKER GAME that is being played. wehter you are for the park or not, most of the people for and against want the same thing, just those against see the way it is being brought about is all wrong and corrupt. Bottom line the bonds have been sold and the interest on interest is burning away. The master developer and private investors all have to do is drag their feet forawhile, driving out UWF and getting vision, not what everyone voted on in 2006
JJ, I’m not sure if deputies are being given calls from the city so much as they are initiating traffic stops or other first responder type of services, but my understanding from talking to a deputy is that if they see someone breaking the law while they are on duty within the city limits, they have to respond. Either way, it’s redundant.
city property owners are paying taxes to the county for ecat…why should they pay again in their city taxes? i’d like to know the stats on deputy calls to the city…i understand emergency situations along the crazy city/county line, but a deputy is not going to come to my house to take a report about a stolen bicycle or a neighbor with their stereo too loud.
JJ — the city was paying TWICE for ECAT. Understand this, I pay county taxes just like you do, but I get little in return. When the city subsidized ECAT, I paid twice. You only pay once.
Deputies do take calls in the city and it maybe more often than some would like to believe. What about mass transit (ECAT) which serves the city? Remember the city bailed out of paying into the system along with the public library.
deputies don’t make calls in the city (but city officers do put our bad guys in the county jail and in the county courts) and i’m only aware of the county’s contribution of sales tax $ to the tennis courts…otherwise amen.
John, the county already pays for services here in the city, and rightfully so for the reasons “anon” pointed out above. Escambia County contributes to parks within Pensacola and it pays for the cost of deputies making calls within city limits. However, this reciprocity was only given after the City of Pensacola pointed out to the county that city residents were paying a far greater amount of money in taxes to the county than what was being received in expenditures. If anything, Pensacola (you know, the city that some North Escambia residents keep claiming is bankrupt) is subsidizing the county.
John — I live in the city and adamently oppose consolidation. I value, and happily pay for, the higher level of service (police & fire response times, quality recreation programs, etc.) I receive from City departments. What I would like to see is a way so I don’t have to subsidize county services. I pay for your fire & sheriff services but receive nothing in return for that money. That’s why city taxes are higher than those in the county. We have to pay for services we never receive.
James, I agree with you. It’s one reason why No Boss Mayor failed – no positive message. John, no one, other than you and other pro-Marty-ites, have said any one in the city wants to be bailed out by the county. I’m not so sure the City wants consolidation.
If they think the county is going to bail them out I believe they will really have their work cut out for them. I believe the County does not want anything to do with the completely useless planning and outrageous bailouts that would be required to cover that bill. Of course their are a few in certain posotions that would love the idea of serious power here, but I think the people can see this for what it would be. Attempt at a power grab. FORGET IT! Just my .02
John Banner — disagreeing is one thing. Stooping to calling people corrupt *****hillbillies, idiots, jerks, small minded, etc. is another. Surely you can understand the difference. Your position isn’t elevated when you tear down the other side.
Agreed. Now all you have to do is to get Donovan and his ilk to abide by your rules. They do NOT play fair and they never will. So it is our fault and we are bad people when we call them on their lies, I see. Please forgive me for trusting them, it is all my fault for pointing out how the other side lied! Shame on me! O shame on me!
John Banner — your rhetoric does not move our cause forward — ******wood hillbillies, backwoods idiotic jerks, small minded, small minds & idiotic jack holes, etc.
I support the community maritime park. I believe it will be a good thing for this community. I think the opponents are wrong but that doesn’t make them bad people or idiots. I assume they want what’s best for this community as much as I do. We just disagree. Rather than alienating the other side, please tone down your holier than thou language & try to move the discussion forward.
One more thing … can you corrupt ****** wood hillbillies imagine downtown Pensacola with the USS Lexington and the US Naval Air Museum? You had your shot at BOTH and you decided no, you would rather be the backwoods idiotic jerks you have always been. Google the Lex, google the attendence at the Air Museum, MILLIONS of visitors each year could be smack dab in the middle of YOUR downtown but no, you would rather play small town, small minded politics. As for Misters Donovan and Fairchild, give them the rubber room they so desperately want and let’s move forward!
Don’t you conspiracy types ever get tired of trying to sabotage every piece of progressive thought that comes our way? My father-in-law who is a remarkable 90 years old and a senior docent at the US Naval Air Museum filled me in on the bitter fight when the late Admiral Fetterman first proposed to build the museum back in the 1970′s. He was met with scorn, ridicule, bigoted nonsense and out right hatred. The original plan put the museum complex in downtown Pensacola but the small minds and idiotic jack holes that dominate public life here shot down that idea time after time. Instead, we have the world’s foremost museum of its type located 20 miles away. Visitors can easily skip Pensacola all together and just go visit the museum. Is this what you jerks want? Maybe the official Florida State Maritime Museum should go to Destin? Pensacola can be a joke once again, fly-over country that rhymes with a popular soft drink.
Save our city, no boss mayor and no $48M bond have something in common … failure. They push people to the other side when they could have been taken seriously — if they had a serious counter proposal.
King Marty had a 200 pound goon blocking me from entering West Gregory Public Library Sat 5, around 2pm. Not only did this Neanderthal block the two main entrance door, which in on City Owned Property, it shoved it’s clip board in my face, and I quote: “Sign this petition that will reduce your tax’s and save you money”. When I ask her if this petition was the one Marty Donovan was promoting,it said “YES”…I informed it, that blocking my entrance into the Public Library was illegal…It responed..”I have permission from A Library Official”. After I freed myself from this brain dead King Marty goon, I informed the Pensacola Policeman that a goon outside was illegally forcing people to sign its petition before it would let patrons pass. Hot’s Off to our fine Police Officer,,he made it move off City/Library peoperty and inform it to stay on the sidewalk. Desperate people will do Desperate things when they Know they have LOST..King Marty needs to be dethrone and drawn and quartered.
Lol. I just want someone to turn on the lights at bayview park. Is that to much to ask?
I just want proof when someone puts forth a statement. Let’s not redirect my question.
Hail King Marty.
Anonaly:
I heard the same thing about George W. Bush. Doesn’t matter–the 2006 vote approved the park, just as 2004 election re-elected Bush. The petition can only make the council approve a new bond issue, nothing more. The fact Marty couldn’t get re-elected proves some proof that his views lack support. Just don’t know why Donovan has to lie to make his points. He has people believing this is about the park. It’s about bonds. He should have done this petition in May or April when all the agreements were approved. Save Our City, No Boss Mayor, Marty Donovan petition —all the same negative tripe that gets us nowhere.
“I Think Not” What is your basis that “almost everyone supports the CMP?” Even in 2006 is was a 56-44% margin. Hell, I know of many people in my everyday travels around town that regret ever voting yes.
I think Mr. Fubar, you must mean the Downtown Crowd and Luke McCoy’s ‘very powerful enemies’ that got him fired, ya know, the ones flying around in the black helicopters with Studer Industries painted on the side, mah-hahahahaha! Your tin foil hat is on too tightly I believe.
P.I.F., anything’s possible when you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Betty,
You better start believing that P-cola is in huge financial trouble because city leaders keep on spending money that they don’t have. First, the retirement fund is upsidedown, and now there is this waterfront boon doggle. Couple these together and before long Pensacola is going to have to file bankruptcy. Now, look at who the big backers are for consolidation…that’s right, it’s the downtown crowd, and who is CMP? I think you can figure it out.
No one I know wants consolidation to happen. But almost everyone supports the CMP project. If the bond fund option is eliminated because of this petition, the city will still be able to fund the project, but it will cost more. What a claim to fame for Mr.
Donovan.
To suggest that consolidation is part of a vast conspiracy to build the CMP is idiotic beyond all reason. God help us all if Mr. FUBAR is actually serious and believes that nonsense.
Hmmmmmmmm,
There is no plan, but to hope for consolidation with the county so that the “whole” can pay for this pig in a poke. Vote NO on consolidation because that’s the only way the county’s citizens can be assured that they won’t have to bail out P-cola from this mess!
A better question is “what is the city’s plan if they stop this?”
