Another City of Pensacola homicide

February 24, 2013

The phone call came this morning about another homicide inside the city of Pensacola in the South L and Government streets area. Later today, the Pensacola Police Department confirmed the shooting.

PPD release:

A death investigation is in progress after a woman was found shot to death Saturday night in Pensacola.

Pensacola Police were dispatched the 400 block of South L Street just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday where the woman’s body was outside a house, said Lt. Doug Baldwin, adding that the Gun Crime Response Team has been activated.

In addition, Baldwin said detectives are pursuing leads related to the woman’s death.

The woman’s name is not being released pending family notification. Additional details will be released when they become available.

Anyone having information on the incident is asked to contact the Pensacola Police Department at 435–1900.

Over the last two months, the city of Pensacola has had two murders and one teen who was beaten so badly that she later died. There have also been three non-fatal shootings, a stabbing and an armed robbery.

By my unofficial count, the city has had the same number of homicides over that same period as the county–and the county’s population is five times greater….more if you count the Morris Court beating death as a homicide.
