Subject: Re: Request for demand of apology to Father Nathan Monk
To: Honorable Mayor Hayward and Honorable City Council Members
On December 17, 2011 I sent an email to City Council President Sam Hall and copied all of you (see emails below). As of this date Mr. Hall has not officially apologize to Father Nathan Monk in a public manner and in a written letter. The people still have not been assured that the LeRoy Boyd Open Forum will continue to be a place where they can bring their concerns, ideas, demands, and grievances before their government. Therefore I hereby request that the members of the City Council at the January 12th, 2012 meeting remove Mr. Hall as President of the City Council and appoint Mr. John Jerralds as Council President. As all of you know Mr. Jerralds was the other nominated City Council member who was being considered as President in your last election for the position. The members of my Union support this along with thousands of citizens in Pensacola and even beyond our community.
I trust that in the best interest of our city and our local government this action will occur and allow the citizens to move forward and enjoy their first amendment rights. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Respectfully,

because Sam did not vote the way they wanted him to on the ECAT funding issue – nothin’ more than good old politics my friend. Isn’t that the root of the bulk of petty issues we frequently contend with ’round here?
Why is the local ATU so hepped up on this issue ?
ACLU yes, but not the local transportation union.
So not only does ATU and Mr. Lowery want Mr. Hall removed, they also want to dictate who will be the new council president? Didn’t realize the ATU and Lowery had become such a powerful political force in Pensacola…
I have viewed a number of the videos from the city councel public meeting referenced. I agree strongly that the rights of the people to voice there concerns to thier government were in deed violated.
I feel that Sam Hall should be removed for his actions in said meeting and for purposefully preventing agencies and private citisens from creating workable solutions to reduce the homelessness in Escambia County.

“WHen will people give up this silly thing and start thinking about the important city problems?”
You’re missing the point. Sam Hall cut Father Nathan off when he didn’t like what was being said. If you were speaking at the Boyd Forum and Sam Hall didn’t like the fact that you were pointing out the increasing crime rate, lack of jobs, etc.. he would cut you off as well. He was using his position to control what was being said in a public forum. That’s not right. If this is going to be the way he runs Council, then he needs to step down.
Mr. Monk, with or without credentials, doesn’t seem the type to call people bigots but if he did you have every right to not support him.
My opinion on the union leader and his letter is he’s looking for publicity and to move up the union agitator list.
WHen will people give up this silly thing and start thinking about the important city problems? With a beautiful place like Pensacola constantly climbing on the violent crimes list in this state, jobs becoming more scarce, and still battling the Deep Horizon Oil spill, Monks constant annoyance to this city and how it has been run recently only hinders us from moving forward. I am all for freedoms of speech, thought, religious viewpoints and the right to publish anything that you feel necessary, but I am not an advocate of bullying that Monk has tried to do. He wants his voice heard, but suppresses those who speak against them. He claims Catholicism yet never shows credentials to those who dare to question, instead he badgers them with hateful words such as calling me “right winged” and a “close minded bigot” because I do not agree with him on what he badgers the city council and citizens of this city to do (let the pan handlers continue turning this town into a wasteland). I applaud Sam Hall for what he did do – he told Monk that he might have acted hastily but he felt he was in his right to maintain order in a meeting of our local government officials. If Monk would be an adult about this, he would see that this is all that needed to be said. An explanation that honesty, takes away any fault of either party.
It is past time for Pensacola and Mobile both to start this rise back to cities where people can feel safe at night, women can go to the grocery store with no fear of being robbed or harassed. I applaud both mayors of these two cities and I hope and pray that the officials that are currently in charge of both cities remain in their seats.
I hope to see you all in City Council Chambers on January 12th
No harm in asking…
And getting press may help his status moving up in the union ranks.
