I want to see the improvement of racial disparities in our area that has caused distrust, segregation and lack of cooperation between the Black and White communities in our area. Through my professional experience and doing business across this country have been able to witness, participate in, develop, implement and manage programmatic initiatives and solutions that have had positive impacts in communities that are more progressive and have seen socio-economic improvement based upon these efforts. I believe that, as a community, we are much stronger and functional when we work together to solve the underlying causes of crime, poverty, education and equality. Furthermore, I see the need to develop a larger middle-class in Escambia County in order to reduce the cost of “social services” in our area that we all pay for. Techniques: I am a vocal advocate that bases my solutions, programs and initiatives on the “best-practices” available and utilized from across the country in the efforts described above. I tell the truth and am unafraid to confront those individuals, politicians and our civic leaders who’s “agenda” is detrimental to achieving the aforementioned goals and objectives. I publicly and privately articulate my positions vocally and in writing. I NEVER hide behind fake names and anonymous posts, because, I believe that if you are not willing to have the “courage of convictions to stand behind your comments” you are just “talking and blocking” and offer no real solutions and in fact are part of the problem. My “style” is not for everyone and doesn’t engender friends among those people that have a vested interest in maintaining the “status quo” and profit from the poverty and dysfunction within our community. However, I get far more support then opposition and provide a voice for the voiceless and those afraid to speak for themselves because of potential retribution and reprisals from the “powers that be” that can affect their personal livelihoods. I hope this provides you some answers. P.S. – Before you comeback with I am in it for personal gain. I do not receive any substantial portion of my revenues in Escambia because my “positions and programs” do not fit in the goal to maintain “status quo” of poverty and segregation that DOES truly exists here. In fact, if I where to rely on income from Escambia/Pensacola to survive I couldn’t. However, as any professional in this area, IF my professional services are to be utilized I do want to be paid for them … just like other consultants, architects, lawyers and others in Escambia/Pensacola. joe July 8, 2013 at 10:07 pm I don’t facebook and sometimes question Mr. Hawthorne’s motives and techniques but am proud to be one of Lumon May’s people, if Mr. May’s integrity is not reason enough, George Twa’s ridiculous statement is enough Titans4Life/MBrown July 1, 2013 at 12:01 pm I am and the members of Titans4Life(T4L) are LUMON MAY People.
