The mastermind behind the University of West Florida’s purchase of Scenic Hill Golf Course, public-private projects that would bring hotels, housing and a football stadium to the main campus, and a $50-million historical tourism program to downtown Pensacola has left UWF.

Bense must have found something totally unforgivable with Altier. Why else would you let someone go, providing it was uwf’s choice, that you had allowed to encumbered so many of your resources? This seek for profit enterprises using the umbrella of a not for profit angle uwf is doing under altier’s direction is risky and suspect.
I bet C chism or Prof Hawkins could provide the real scoop.

Yeah but he sure had the PNJ drinking the look aid. Will be interesting to see how the UWF spin machine spins this tidbit

“More to this than we’re being told” always seemed to be Altier’s M.O., so yeah, probably.

“Matt has several opportunities he is exploring and I know he has a bright future ahead.”

This is fishy. Why would he walk away from a $195k/yr job where he had practically a free hand to run things?

I’m betting there’s more to this than we’re being told.

Resigned, apparently. Here’s the text of the email to FacStaff.

    Dear Campus Community,

I am writing to let you know that Vice President Matt Altier has resigned his post as Vice President of Administrative Affairs and CEO of Business Enterprises Inc. Matt has several opportunities he is exploring and I know he has a bright future ahead. I sincerely appreciate Matt’s leadership and vision in helping us develop BEI. Through his leadership we’ve developed many new initiatives and projects that will enhance the University of West Florida. We will continue to move these projects to fruition in the best possible way for UWF.

Over the next few weeks I will thoughtfully consider the best approach for an interim replacement for Matt’s dual role. Please join me in wishing Matt well in his future endeavors and thanking him for his service to the university.

WOW! I hope that his departure does not slow UWF’s tourism project as this strategy is a key opportunity to diversify our tourism offerings.

Perhaps we WILL be informed? This is news to me. Any scoop on why?
