Buzz: Baby Gaetz could have worthy competition for Daddy Gaetz’s senate seat

August 21, 2013

Our sources are telling us that former State Sen. Durell Peaden is considering a run for Senate President Don Gaetz’s seat next year. The senate president terms out of office in 2014.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fort Walton Beach) has announced that he is running for his father’s seat and has, so far, successfully frightened away any competitors.

Peaden is a different story. He is the darling of the NRA and has huge name recognition in the district.

This one will be fun to watch.

It could be a lot of fun with them both on the campaign trail attending campaign rallies. But I suspect those two would prefer to hand pick their audiences. I want them to answer questions about SYG in open forums because I need some detailed explanations about their interpretations of the law. For instance, during a recent NPR interview Baby Gaetz stated that if you are in fear of bodily harm it is your responsibility to flee. You don’t have to be mugged, or raped. It’s your responsibility to run away from the threatening situation. Soooo, a guy hijacks a woman and her car and hauls her off to an isolated location…and she just runs? Yeah? What about the guy that breaks into Granny’s house while she is asleep and enters her bedroom with clear intent to rape her…it is her responsibility to run? You are walking along minding your own business and someone starts harassing you and makes intimidating comments and gestures..intentionally picking in you…just run? See? I need clarification on his interpretation of the law. And, I would like to know if Peaden agrees with Gaetz’ interpretation of SYG, and if not…I. Need details.
