Buzz: Teachers must hand in tax returns to district office

I’m hearing that the District administration is asking teachers send in copies of front page of their federal income tax returns to comply with an internal audit. This seems like a huge invasion of privacy. I thought conservative Republicans ran the Escambia County Public School District.

Not one of my friends have been asked to do this.
Lori: what does a tax form have to do with republicans? Last time I checked accoutants weren’t responsible for educating our kids.
Also, the district does not need your tax form to look at who is covered under your insurance. They already have all that info.

  2. jeeperman says:

Okay so they wanr ro compare dependents claimed on your income tax form to dependents on your health insurance.

  3. Chris says:

    jeeperman,
They had them mark out their S.S. numbers and income. They wanted to see who you claim as dependents in your household for insurance claims.

  4. perdidochas says:

If it has to do with health insurance and eligibility, the relevant information on the first page of the 1040 is the list of dependents. Not sure this is an ethical thing to require of teachers, though.

  5. eric says:

@ lori Teachers are supposed to teach, not administrators and 90 % or more are democrats so blaming this on republicans is nonsense.
This rumor is stating to have some substantiation to it.
Amazing move for the system to attempt. It won’t fly.

  6. jeeperman says:

    Chris,
How would the school use the first page of your 1040 to determine whom health insurance should be covering in a household ?
Each spouse could be covered under one health insurance policy or each could be covered under seperate policies.

Form 1040 does not ask about health insurance coverage.

  7. Chris says:

Having 2 teachers in the family that teach for Escambia this is a true story. According to them the county is cracking down on who health insurance should be covering in a household.

  8. Courtney says:

    @Lori, no it’s not.

  9. jeeperman says:

So far this is an unsubstantiated rumor.

  10. Frank says:

    Completely ridiculous.

  11. Lori says:

True story, Republicans run the school district, and that’s why students are not getting a genuine education.

  12. Teresa says:

Eric..The way things have been going the past few years, it’s not really hard to believe. It makes no sense …but neither does the district half the time.

  13. Rick Outzen says:

Came from two sources that have been reliable in the past.

  14. eric says:

OMG, Rick writes it and some people believe it. You have got to be kidding people.

  15. Teresa says:

I have several friend that teach in Escambia and no one has heard this. Did your source get notified via E-Mail? Is it for a certain school? Certain teachers?
And yes, if this is true it is a invasion of privacy. I also don’t see how the info off there front page could help with an audit.
Faculty meeting are on Thursday…guess we will find out then.

Why would an employee’s personal income tax return have to do with the school district’s internal audit. District teachers need to get the name of the one individual who propagated this idea and respond to that person and his/her supporters formally.
