One Response to “Chamber Board to discuss Economic Development”

  1. CJ Lewis says:

Hopefully the “Chamber” will also at some point get around to discussing a change to its legal name that as of today remains “The Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc.” much as the legal name of the City of Pensacola’s municipal airport remains “Pensacola Regional Airport.”

Why is it that we have a Santa Rosa County, Jay, Pace Area, Navarre Beach Area, Gulf Breeze Area, Pensacola Beach, Century and Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce but no Chamber of Commerce laser focused on creating jobs in Escambia County or the City of Pensacola?

This Chamber seems to be the victim of mission creep as it has evolved from a focus on Pensacola, the Pensacola Area, the two-county Pensacola Bay Area and now the 3-4 county Greater Pensacola Area? What next – the Northwest Florida & Southeast Alabama Chamber of Commerce?

No matter what decisions are made today, the Pensacola City Council should zero out all future funding for this Chamber if only because it is already funded by Escambia County. At some point, City taxpayers need to object to the unwritten City/County policy of double taxation that discourages people from living and businesses from operating inside Pensacola City Limits.
