City RESTORE Conversation Continues in A.M.

January 24, 2013

The short, for now: Pensacola City Council has decided to wait on approving Mayor Ashton Hayward’s appointment of David Penzone to Escambia County’s RESTORE advisory committee.

The council raised concerns that they were not given more opportunity to discuss the mayor’s appointment—Penzone wasn’t named until the end of Monday’s COW meeting—and decided to continue the conversation at a special meeting next week. City Administrator Bill Reynolds informed council that the mayor would be calling the special meeting for 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Bentina is way too smart to get dragged into this goat rodeo.

I think that Bentina Terry would be a much better choice. She is an attorney, works for Gulf Power, has regional political connections and clearly knows how to deal with the political wrangling that is going to become a part of the RESTORE project selection process.

Here we go again – looks like Bare will be the Maren Deweese proxy for holding our city back. So disappointing.

Bare brings up some legitimate points. Hayward failed to do the very basic groundwork on this: check the county guidelines for advisory members and communicate his choice personally to council members.

Hmmm. Council members are headed for some intense lobbying. Somebody forgot to count their votes before making the announcement. I thought Mayor Hayward had at least five votes, but maybe not.
