Complaint against GSI Recycling

March 16, 2012

Here is the lawsuit that was filed today against GSI Recycling. Can you imagine how bad this would have been if Friendship Missionary had actually bought the school property or if Habitat for Humanity had tried to build a subdivision next to this facility? Only in Escambia County can such a facility exist and expand in a residential neighborhood.

But this is a poor, predominately black neighborhood so the county commission turns a blind-eye. As one neighbor told me today, “Nobody gives a flip about us. Our county gave them a permit and we’re powerless to do anything about it. Rich get richer, poor get poorer.”

And I need to add that Charliy Mullins AKA know as Mullins Transmission, has used GSI for at least 30 years! I guess you get a bitt grumpy after retirement. It didn’t bother him when he was in business.
Also, I went to Oakcrest, and then on to Brownsivlle Middle, the scrap yard had no effect on my education what so ever.
    UGGGH….This is so aggravating.

Ohh Mr. Hawthorne you and me both know that your comment is a bunch of B.S. You couldn’t come up with the funds in time. There was no way you could get the back portion ready for HUD housing. Please don’t get me started!
GSI has been there forever. They were there long before houses were built. If you don’t like the sound of a airplane…don’t move next to the airport! GSI pays county taxes that are much needed. They also give JOBS to people that live within walking distance. Like the folks from Gary Circle. Mr. Hawthrone wanted to make a one stop hand out shop…GSI supplies stable jobs within the scrap yard, and a close place to sell scrap. Do you get how many poor black, white, and spanish people sell scrap there daily. I do. I know how important GSI is to the Brownsville community. There has been plenty of notice given to the community and most are not interested in GSI moving.
The whole thing is absolutely ridicules!

    Rick,

Now you see why I didn’t complete the purchase. However, it was not my place to bring up the issues with that property and possibly be liable for a lawsuit from the School District.
