ECSO won’t arrest Foley

handcuffsWEAR TV reporter Andrew McIntosh asked Sgt. Ski Gowitski, head of Escambia computer crimes unit, if former Congressman Mark Foley was guilty of a crime for using his computer while in Pensacola to send explicit sexual messages to a teenager.

Gowitski: “In some states, that’s not illegal. But in the state of Florida, the mere fact that you brought up sex or sexual activity with a minor is a violation of the law.”

Since this chat took place in Escambia, the county could pursue one charge against him.

When asked if the ECSO would pursure the case –

Gowitski says that would require more resources than he can afford, so he’ll leave the case to the FBI.

Gowitski: “So, it’s just better that an agency that can go anywhere they want to and have the resources to do it. Let them handle it.”
