Escambia County per capital income improves

Federal economists said per capita personal income in Escambia County in 2008 – a rate better than the state or national figures. Escambia County also outperformed Santa Rosa County in percentage increase. However, the per capita personal income for Escambia County is still only 86 percent of the state average and 84 percent of the national average.

Per capita personal income is calculated as the total personal income of the residents of a state divided by the population of the state. In computing per capita personal income, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) uses the Census Bureau’s annual midyear population estimates.

In 2008 Escambia had a per capita personal income (PCPI) of $33,561. This ranked 24th in the state and was 86 percent of the state average, $39,064, and 84 percent of the national average, $40,166. The 2008 PCPI reflected an increase of 2.5 percent from 2007. The 2007-2008 state change was 0.1 percent and the national change was 2.0 percent. In 1998 the PCPI of Escambia was $21,525 and ranked 31st in the state. The 1998-2008 average annual growth rate of PCPI was 4.5 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 4.0 percent and for the nation was 4.0 percent.

This PCPI ranked 26th in the state and was 84 percent of the state average, $39,064, and 82 percent of the national average, $40,166. The 2008 PCPI reflected an increase of 1.4 percent from 2007. The 2007-2008 state change was 0.1 percent and the national change was 2.0 percent. In 1998 the PCPI of Santa Rosa was $22,375 and ranked 28th in the state. The 1998-2008 average annual growth rate of PCPI was 3.9 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 4.0 percent and for the nation was 4.0 percent.
