School Desk
Sheree Cagle announced on Facebook this past weekend that she is leaving Global Learning Academy, the school she helped open two years, and has   accepted a position as Assistant Superintendent in another district.

“I am excited and sad at the same time,” wrote Cagle. “Thanks to everyone who helped me become the leader I am the past thirty years in ECSD. I love you all so much! To my teachers, both current and past, continue to change the world, one child at a time!”

observer- What county are you in? Escambia has not received report cards. The news is saying they will be mailed today.

School grades should be out. It’s my understanding that 4 school’s made an A. Get on it Rick!

The elementary schools have sent out report cards. The middle schools as well (last week).

18 1/2 days since school is out for the summer and still no report cards. The whole system is highly ineffective. That’s basic schooling, you should walk out the door with a report card at the end of the year. I’ve heard all te excuses about waiting on the end of course test or whatever……fix the system, back to the basics.

After spending 10 years as a public school teacher, 6 of those years in Escambia County, leaving the profession was the best choice I ever made. Sorry kids. You guys were great. It was your administration that sucked. I know Dr. Cagle personally and she was a great asset to the district. Good luck filling her shoes.

Part of the reason we have no highly effective teachers per the evaluation system, is that the model has some provision that a teacher’s scores are modified by both the school’s scores and the district’s scores. In other words, if your district is bad, even if you are a perfect teacher, you get marked down. It’s a silly system, and I’m surprised the union hasn’t sued for it.

Well, normally when a school has an “F” grade the principal is demoted and Mr. Thomas brings in all new teachers, like it is their fault they are at a 100% free lunch school with uninvolved parents. But not Dr. Cagle, she gets special treatment with one phone call from Mr. Thomas she becomes an asst. superintendent in another county in Florida. It is still the same old good ol boy, now girl, issue that this district has had for 50 years. It is not what you know or how well or poorly you perform, it is who you know.
Now they are no longer giving step increases to teachers. Pay will based on if a teacher is effective or highly effective. Well, last year the Escambia school district had 0% highly effective teachers!!! Are you kidding me? At least 80% percent of the teachers are highly effective, but the observation and requirements to get highly effective are so subjective and the teachers are expected to work past their work hours, hold workshops for the rest of the faculty at their school, and keep long unnecessary detailed lesson plans. Some teachers have made it a point, during and observation, to show exactly what is described in a domain area in order to get a highly effective rating and the principal didn’t see it or mark that area highly effective. The teacher evaluation system changes every 3 years and the one currently use is the worst, which is why the data showed 0% highly effective teachers in our county.
How can a teacher that teaches special ed. disabled children show a year’s growth with a developmentally delayed child versus an teacher who teaches gifted children who are going to show 2 to 3 years growth solely due to their high IQ. Schools are not assembly lines where every “student” (product) is the same. Children learn and develop at different rates even if they are the same age duh!

    Mary Ann,

That style sounds like Mr. Thomas’s style…….

There are a lot of high level people leaving the Escambia County School district. Rick, you need to check that out.

Sheree Cagle was a horrible principal at GLA. Her teachers stayed so angry at her and some would quit mid-year or transfer to another school after only 1 year there. Her dictator style is not the way to get the best out on one’s teachers. It creates resentment and low morale. No principal needs to micro-mange their teachers. They are educated and know what is best for their students.
She has “worked” her way to the top, alright, a lot of teachers call her Dr. Dyson…..

    Can anyone say, “Demotion!”

Sheree Cagle is one of the best teachers and Administrators ever to grace the halls of Escambia County.
