Help the Homeless

January 3, 2012

Every year EscaRosa Coalition of the Homeless (ECOH) conducts the “U Count” Point-In-Time Homeless survey, counting the homeless population in Santa Rosa and Escambia counties. This year the count will be from 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26 to 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27.

The purpose of the survey is to determine the needs of the local homeless men, women and children. Florida has some of the highest numbers of homeless veterans. Finding out how many need help is the first step.

ECOH needs a minimum of 150 volunteers with a heart to help conduct the survey. Volunteers will only serve two to four hour shifts. No experience is required and all volunteers will be trained. Volunteer applications are online at or you can contact John Johnson, ECOH executive director at 439-3009.

    I was NOT being sarcastic.
This census is used by various homeless aid groups and agencies to obtain taxdollars and public sympathy.
Counting professional panhandlers as homeless does not accurately reflect the current population of the truely homeless.

I think his point was that most of them do not really want help to get out of the situation there in. They only want a hand out. He was being sarcastic.

Jeeperman-I’m not following what you are saying, what do you mean?

    I will help.
If I can also ask each one if they want help.
Other than cash in their hands without any effort other than to ask for it.
