Lionfish video – off of Pensacola Beach, taken Feb. 18

Clint Retherford, Dive Commander for Escambia Search & Rescue, sent me the following video with this note:

We spoke briefly on your radio show a week or so ago regarding the lionfish issue in Pensacola waters out in the Gulf of Mexico…… Here is a video of our February 18,2014 shoot last week for the research teams at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab & the University of Southern Mississippi…. The module only had 57 lionfish on it but we are told it was a research pyramid that we cleared last year on a previous dive….. there were a few fish on this reef which is not typical but there is a clear absence of any baitfish at all.

Name them and I will report back with what fish they serve comes to them frozen in boxes from afar.

Jeeperman is eating at the wrong restaurants, nothing against , regional or national chain distributors

I know a number of local restaurants served by and ownership shared with local seafood market owners.

  3. jeeperman says:

That won’t happen unless they get delivered by the Sysco or Gordon Foods truck.

  4. Mary says:

Lionfish may look pretty but they are doing some major damage to our sealife. Resturant owners need to start including some new and exciting dishes on their menus that include Lionfish. We need to eat them before they eat up all of the natural sealife/fish in our waters.
