More on Dixon showdown tonight

September 20, 2011

IN reporter Jeremy Morrison interviewed Rev. Lutimothy May about tonight’s Escambia County School Board vote on whether to close A.A. Dixon Charter School. If the Board does it, they will be on track to close more schools in African-American neighborhoods that any of its predecessors. They and Superintendent Malcolm Thomas would have done more to ruin those neighborhoods than other entity, especially when you consider Brownsville Middle School still hasn’t been sold.

Here’s the list: Spencer Bibbs, Allie Yniestra, Hallmark, A.A. Dixon—and next year Lincoln Park.

The economically disadvantaged students are “cash cows” for the District. Their neighborhoods are simple collateral damage for the School District budget.
