Nodine catches heat from victim’s family


Mobile Press Register reports family and friends of Angel Downs spoke out Wednesday, asking the public to remember that their loved one was the victim, not former Mobile County Commissioner Stephen Nodine, the man accused of killing the Gulf Shores woman. Former Mobile County Commissioner Nodine is accused in the shooting death last year of Downs, 45, outside her Gulf Shores home. In December, a mistrial was declared on murder and stalking charges. Prosecutors have still not announced whether they will retry the case.

According to the article, Nodine contacted the media Tuesday and claimed that he was “maliciously” prosecuted in a case that lacked evidence against him.

Nodine was the darling of economic development until the air tanker contract fell through in 2009. He made numerous speeches in Pensacola, even appearing before the Escambia County Commission with Commissioner Gene Valentino in support of Valentino’s ideas.
