Rep. Miller Assessing BP Settlement

November 15, 2012

Rep. Jeff Miller’s (R-Fla.) chief of staff said this afternoon that the congressman was still assessing the recently announced $4.5 billion settlement with BP over the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, but that he did not think it pertained to money associated with the RESTORE Act.

“We’re waiting for a copy from Justice,” said Chief of Staff Dan McFaul.

McFaul said he thought the settlement pertained to criminal charges relating to the spill, and not the Clean Water Act fines associated with RESTORE. He said that Miller would be making a statement “once we get a chance to digest it.”

The figure seems very low to me. I’m afraid if that is the pot of money we are expecting a percentage from on the RESTORE funds we may be disappointed. Hopefully this is just one part of the settlement or something.
