Stand Down, Mr. LeRoy or how Valentino broke his gavel

July 17, 2013

I’ve heard repeatedly about Commissioner Gene Valentino breaking his gavel last week when he got upset with a citizen addressing the board. Admiral Leroy knows how to get under people’s skin, but Valentino’s behavior is over the top…way over the top. You have to watch this:

Watch the prior video of the testy exchange between Valentine and Grover. Toward the end Gene scolds Grover for accepting an invitation from Panama City to discuss regional economic development efforts. During the exchange Gene’s true paranoia rears its head as he tries to accuse the Pensacola Chamber of extending the invitation thereby usurping Gene’s self appointed status as economic development guru for the county. The bottom line is that Grover has an outstanding reputation with the other counties in the Gulf Coast consortium based on his leadership in the oil spill recovery effort. Gene on the other hand is incapable of fostering relationships with other counties. His pettiness, paranoia and petulance is purely pukeworthy.
