Tampa Mayor Buckhorn donates personal funds to remove Confederate monument

August 17, 2017

In the wake of Hillsborough County Commission’s decision to delay the removal of the Confederate monument outside the Hillsborough County Courthouse, City of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn pledged $1000 towards the $140,000 in private funds being raised on in support of removal of the monument.

“It is not the city’s obligation but it is my moral obligation,” said City of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “This monument represents a dark time in America; It’s time for County Commission to stop playing politics with people’s very real emotions and remove this monument immediately.”

Will Mayor Hayward and Councilman Johnson raise private dollars for the removal of “Our Confederate Dead” monument or use taxpayer dollars?
