Escambia County has issued a list of organizations that have, to date, met the qualifications to participate in the selection of an environmental representative to sit on the county commission’s RESTORE Act advisory committee.

The following groups have been qualified, or are tentatively qualified pending further documentation: Bream Fishermen’s Association, Friends of Perdido Bay, Pensacola Archeological Society (tentative), Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club, Bayou Chico Association (tentative), Pensacola Beach Advocates, International Sustainable Boating Council, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Gulf Coast Environmental Defense (tentative), and Earth Ethics (tentative).

The county is continuing to accept organizations through Jan. 14. Each qualifying organization will get one vote in the selection process.

A list of, thus far, accepted nominees has also been released: Dave Cambron, Charles Green, Dr. Gloria Horning, Bob Kriegel, Teresa Preston, Robin Rowan, Bob Stender, Christian Wagley and Phil Wooley.

    Eligible Environmental Advocacy Groups

    To be considered an eligible “environmental advocacy group,” the following standards must be met:

    Eligible groups must have been “formed” by December 31, 2012
    “Formed” is defined by incorporation or documentation of “activity”
    “Activity” is defined by 2 open (public) meetings or events within the past 12 months
    Eligible groups must have a point of contact & address
    Eligible groups must have a “mission statement which includes support or advocacy for the environment”
    Eligible groups will have one voting representative each
    Eligible groups will submit supporting documentation and name & contact information of voting representative to Keith Wilkins by close of business, on Monday, January 14, 2013.
