Wilson’s Town Hall

December 10, 2012

Escambia County Commissioner Wilson Robertson will host a town hall meeting tomorrow night. The meeting will include a discussion about the upcoming Merlin Road drainage project and will conclude with an open forum.

Lately, the District 1 commissioner has taken to speaking openly about his thoughts on local press coverage and the public outcry over the return of George Touart to the county administrator’s seat. Last week, he told a group of citizens who attended a public forum to “fire us” if they were unhappy with the commission’s decision to hire Touart as an interim administrator.

Robertson will meet with the public at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Bailey Middle School, located at 4110 Bauer Rd.

He said this morning that he has taken to reading “the blogs” and made several references to public opinion and public perception. I do believe that I saw an attempt from him at being reasonable today.

They can say all they want that they don’t care what people say, but they do. Anyone who can go, should go and speak your mind. And report back to us. Especially if you live in his district.

I think someone should ask him publicly why he thought it was a good idea to hire Mr. Touart. Don’t buy their mantra of “We need to move on.” We will, but they still need to explain themselves fully.
Mr. Touart will be involved in a lot of important issues including selecting his permanent replacement. He will be the one designating what staff will be serving on the hiring committee, if I understood that correctly.

Instead of people showing up to hear him talk out the side of his mouth, it would be nice if all stayed at home and let him enjoy listening to himself. I wouldn’t waste my time to go listen to him speak about anything. He can’t tell the truth and is so cocky that I would rather go sling human waste than to hear him.

Won’t happen Ames. Look at Robertson getting re-elected on the heels of the Gibbs debacle. This county likes dysfunction – its all they know. Why else would you hire Touart?

A charter county government would have the recall vote by the citizens mechanism.
So now you know of another reason the BOCC will always resist going to a charter government.
The only way an elected official can be removed from office is by God or by the governor.

Citizens should not have to wait for Touart and his kind to serve their term to replace them. Start a petition for recall elections and get rid of the ones that need to go. Don’t wait.

Perhaps IN will cover the event. If past is prologue to the future, WR’s past comments and conduct are probably a preview of WR’s comments and conduct at this upcoming meeting. I wonder about “usual suspects” (he said with affection rather than ridicule). Perhaps they will be there, too! In any case, Rick, please provide coverage for those of us who cannot attend.

I guess in a way we did fire at least one of the 3 votes and I believe he is still unemployed… I doubt if they had the guts to hold the same votes (Oliver and Touart) today that Touart would have a job.

Wonder what his rant will be tonight…
