Light Turnout Expected For Primary
The News Service of Florida

Secretary of State Cord Byrd encouraged registered voters to go to the polls as turnout for the primary could land under 20 percent.

“The people who are going to make it to the general ballot are those who are going to get elected during the primary. Right now, we’re less than 20 percent statewide. I would encourage people to get to the polls. It’s hard to complain when you don’t go vote,” Byrd told reporters Tuesday.

Before the polls open Tuesday, 1.97 million Floridians cast votes through mail ballots and in-person early voting. That’s less than 15 percent of the 13.48 million registered voters in the state.

Turnout for the 2024 primary was 22.4%, which was down from 25.9 in the 2022 primary and 28.2% in the 2020 primary.

Byrd said otherwise that no problems were reported as polling locations opened.

Escambia County

Unofficial Voter Turnout
40,215

Percent Turnout
19.69%

Nearly 11,000 votes have been cast on election day as of 1 p.m. It doesn’t look like Escambia County will hit the  59,857 total votes – 29.3% — that I estimated on Monday.
