15 Arrested as New Ordinance Enforced

Press Release –  ECSO Sheriff’s deputies began enforcing a new county ordinance today that prohibits anyone from standing in the median of roadways within Escambia County. The ordinance also prohibits anyone from entering the roadway unless legally crossing the road. The ordinance does not prohibit people from standing on sidewalks, as long as they do not enter the roadway.

Deputies began to enforce the ordinance early this afternoon. Deputies arrested approximately 15 people from several different intersections throughout the county. In one incident, a man and his wife were arrested after driving from their home in Gulf Breeze to the intersection of Olive Rd. and Davis Hwy. and entering the median and holding signs asking for money.
