2022 Pensacola Citizens Academy graduates [podcast]

The City of Pensacola recognized graduates from the 2022 Pensacola Citizens Academy on Tuesday, June 21, marking the end of a nine-week interactive course hosted by the city. This free program provided residents an opportunity to get an inside look at City of Pensacola government and learn more about the services local government provides.

Pensacola Citizens Academy began on April 26 and met every Tuesday evening through June 21. Those graduating from the program spent nine weeks immersed in the departments of local government, providing them the opportunity to view how the City of Pensacola operates and ask questions of city leadership.

“The Pensacola Citizens Academy is an amazing opportunity for citizens to engage with their local government, meet our hardworking employees and learn more about what we do every day,” Mayor Grover Robinson said. “I’d like to thank the city staff who made this possible and the engaged residents who took the time to participate. Congratulations on your graduation, and we hope you enjoyed the academy as much as we enjoyed hosting you.”

Participants in the Pensacola Citizens Academy experienced site visits, field demonstrations and department tours, including a behind-the-scenes look at Pensacola International Airport, the Port of Pensacola, Pensacola Energy, Pensacola Fire Department, Pensacola Police Department and more. Academy participants met many City of Pensacola employees, learning about the work they do on a daily basis to keep the city running smoothly.

Other departments featured were the City Attorney’s Office, City Clerk’s Office, Code Enforcement, Community Redevelopment Agency, Constituent Services/311, Engineering, Finance, Housing, Human Resources, Innovation & Technology, Inspections, Office of the Mayor, Neighborhood Services, Parks & Recreation, Planning, Public Information Office, Public Records, Public Works, Sanitation Services and more.

Whether participants were learning about the City of Pensacola’s role in maintaining parks and building infrastructure, or stepping into the daily role of a firefighter or police officer, academy participants were constantly learning about the tremendous efforts city employees put forth to keep Pensacola “Florida’s First and Future.”

The City of Pensacola would like to once again thank and congratulate all graduates of the 2022 Pensacola Citizens Academy.
