Local environmental group 350 Pensacola is hosting a discussion tomorrow evening entitled The Evolution of Activism.
The talk, focusing on “how to create environmental and community change,” will be presented by local activist Tom Garner. The speaker will draw from his own experiences to “offer lessons in developing a strategy, communicating with elected officials and citizen organizing.
Garner, author of the 1994 book “The Pensacola Lighthouse,” is active on a range of local issues. He has worked with issues such as historic preservation and environmental protection; in 2012 he was active in pushing the city of Pensacola to adopt more accommodating ordinances governing backyard chickens.
Garner’s discussion begins at 7 p.m., June 11, inside the Bayview Senior Resource Center at Bayview Park, 2000 E. Lloyd St. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Prior to the presentation, 350 Pensacola will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. The group will recap the recent 350.org Climate Organizing and Leadership Workshop and also discuss future plans.
