$5.78 million in Early Restoration Projects

(Press Release) Restoration of more than four miles of sand dunes, enhancement of two existing boat ramps and construction of two new boat ramps are among the first set of projects that will be implemented as part of a $1 billion agreement struck between the Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Trustees and BP Oil Company in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill two years ago.

As a result of this agreement, BP provided $1 billion for the “Deepwater Horizon Phase I Early Restoration Plan & Environmental Assessment” (ERP/EA) as an initial step toward fulfilling their obligation to fund the complete restoration of natural resources impacted by the spill. The agreement does not mitigate the future liability of BP or any other entity for natural resource damages or other liabilities, but does provide an opportunity to help jump start restoration on the Gulf Coast.

The April 18 announcement of selected early restoration projects followed an extensive public process, which ended on February 14, 2012.
