AHERO: ‘Most of the time of I feel like I don’t want to bother people’

PENSACOLA–At the eighth annual AHERO Warrior Hook-Up Pensacola Beach, participants shared their struggles with PTSD and other health issues in a testimonial journal. With the permission of those who transcribed their struggles, we are sharing some of the journal entries in recognition of Suicide Awareness Month.  Readers can comment and maybe add to the story.

“From the time I served to after retirement, I didn’t expect anything from anyone– not even a ‘thank you’ because it was an honor. I am very proud of what I have done and to have fought next to my fellow brothers. After service I have a hard time adjusting to life and don’t have friends or personnel that I can reach out to. Most of the time of I feel like I don’t want to bother people. AHERO gave me a second opportunity to feel part of an organization again that I truly miss, gave me camaraderies, the trust to open up, to talk to individuals, but most importantly the connections to seek help. I recommend wounded soldiers of all types to seek this non-profit organization and get connected. Thank you, AHERO.”
