On WCOA this morning, Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves discussed the uniqueness of the effort to relocate American Magic to the Port of Pensacola.
Why this matters: The Triumph staff has estimated the ROI for its $8.5 million grant to be almost $285 million.The project will create 170 net sustainable jobs, with an average salary of $105,000 per year – the highest ever for any Triumph grant.
Mayor Reeves said, “We don’t get projects like this that could be catalytic at this scale that come organically very often.”
“The organization, American Magic, really loved their experience here,” said the mayor. “All their folks that were coming from all over the world to work on one of the most technologically advanced boats in the world operating in our bay said, ‘Hey, we love it here, and how can we make something work?'”
Next Step: Securing the Governor’s Job Growth Grant Fund ($3,900,000) and Florida Seaport Transportation Economic Development Program ($1,500,000).
Mayor Reeves said, “The next step to get across the finish line is the state dollars now that they see that we’re serious and we’ve got the support. That’ll be the next step, but this for the state of Florida is huge, not just for Pensacola. Florida will be on the cutting edge of technology here.”
