Senate Committee on BP Disaster to meet here

Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, announced today that the Senate’s Select Committee on the Economy will meet on July 12 here to examine the impact of the oil spill on the economy.

Gaetz has asked Gov. Charlie Crist for a schedule of when funds received from BP will be used to combat the oil spill. [This has been one of my biggest concerns where has the $50 million given to the state by BP gone?]

“This catastrophe is metastasizing daily,” said Gaetz. “Floridians are losing their jobs, business income is slumping and local governments are rapidly burning through their scant reserves. Every barrel of oil that pumps into the Gulf of Mexico poisons the economy of Florida.”
