Education Buzz: Secret meeting fiasco, EDS skinny

The secret meeting that Superintendent of Schools Malcolm Thomas held last Friday to win support for his policies dealing with abandoned school properties failed miserably, according to my sources. Instead of winning accolades from the all-white, predominately male audience, Thomas had to listen to criticism for denying the press access. When he tried to diss Mayor Ashton Hayward, Thomas was challenged for misstating the mayor’s proposal. One attendee shared with me that he was shocked at the superintendent’s arrogance.

Those looking for dark reasons behind the recent firing of the principal of Episcopal Day School will be disappointed. Beverly Patteson was dismissed by the board for not meeting goals and deadlines, according to sources. One board member has admitted that they could have handled the dismissal better by letting Patteson finish the school year or at least the semester.
