Pensacola City Hall had no storm surge

Park opponents love to claim that building anything on Pensacola Bay is foolish and that any hurricane will wash it away. They cite the damage to Pensacola City Hall as proof of their assertion.

Here are the facts:

The Pensacola City Hall was not flooded by Pensacola Bay during Hurricane Ivan and hasn’t been by any hurricane since it was built. The building which was built before the new building code had some water damage because the elevator mechanical housing blew off the top of the building allowing water to penetrate through the three elevator shafts.
