Reports From the Polls

Standing outside Precinct 34 earlier today, Phil Hall, an observer with Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), said everything was going well. There had been an issue with a ballot machine, but it got corrected swiftly.

“It’s going smoothly,” Hall said.

Observers and poll officials at precincts 28 and 63 said the same. But another observer and legal liaison, Democratic State Committeeman Lynn Laird, said there were problems at other polling locations.

At precinct 61, Laird said, a voter reported that when a machine did not work a poll worker instructed him to drop his ballot into an open box. The committeeman also reported an incident at Precinct 41 in which a woman was reportedly told she could not vote because she had already done so; she maintained she had not voted yet.

Laird also said there has been issues at Precinct 105, or Christ Church. Political supporters have apparently been instructed not to distribute literature in the church’s parking lot, which the committeeman said was outside of the defined no-solicitation area.
