The U.S. Centers for Disease Control reports that Florida is one of 29 states that have been classified as having “high†flu-like activity this year. Influenza activity is increasing nationwide and is most elevated in the southern region of the country.
Nationwide, influenza A H3N2 is the most commonly detected influenza subtype, but Florida had no such cases reported as of the end of 2012.
In its latest report, the Florida Department of Health said that Panhandle, Central, and South Florida regions are showing higher than expected Influenza-like illness (ILI) activity in emergency department visits. Escambia County is one of 20 counties that reported moderate influenza activity.
