BP wants to suspend claims, sets up hot line

BP asked a federal judge late Tuesday to order that all payments from its Gulf oil spill civil settlement be suspended until an independent investigation by former FBI Director Louis Freeh of the claims administrator’s office is concluded. Read more.

Also Raw Story reports that BP has set up a “snitch line” to reward people who inform the oil giant about fraudulent claims related to 2010′s massive Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The hotline promises that “tips that lead directly to an indictment, a recovery of money paid, or the denial of a claim because of fraud or corruption may entitle the reporter to a reward”.

In its press release, the company gave the hotline number as 1-855-NO-2-FRAUD.
