Inclusion Series Spotlight: Dr. Augusta Simon

Details: UWF alumna Dr. Augusta Simon will be the featured speaker during the next Inclusion Series Spotlight. As a UWF Honors student Dr. Simon helped found the UWF Black Student Union, now known as the African American Student Association; she was the first black resident hall adviser for Housing; and she worked on staff of The Voyager, the UWF student newspaper. Join us as Dr. Simon shares her lived experiences and unique perspective on inclusion. Light refreshments will be served.
Hard Hats Rally

Details: The University of West Florida Student Government Association is hosting a “Hard Hats for Education Rally” to support the system-wide legislative Hard Hats for Higher Education Campaign, which includes a push for the much-needed $321 million for Florida university facilities construction, known as the 3-2-1 Plan. Students across the entire Florida State University System are helping to spearhead the initiative by working hand-in-hand with higher education and business leaders to organize grassroots campaigns at universities. SGA organizations across the state are hosting individual campus rallies on Feb. 26, encouraging students to call and write their legislators.
Getting Back to Our Roots: Learn How to Search Your Family Tree

Details: The UWF Office of Equity, Diversity & International Affairs, along with other partners will host a program to openly discuss how to start the search of your family tree. There will be a panel of experts available to answer questions.
Overcoming Adversity

Details: Join the University of West Florida chapter of the Student Veterans of America in welcoming Philip Brashear, President of the Carl Brashear Foundation as he speaks on the topic of overcoming adversity. The purpose of this event is to highlight the achievements of the Carl Brashear Foundation, Volunteers of America, Student Veterans of America, and the University of West Florida for the continued advocacy in assisting our military veteran communities.

Details: Please join the UWF Libraries for a lecture and open discussion of Amin Maalouf’s “Leo Africanus.†This event is free and open to the public, and copies of the book are available at the UWF Libraries, West Florida Public Library and Islamic Center of Northwest Florida.
