Mississippi ballot tricks

When Trent Lott resigned his US Senate post for the state of Mississippi, Gov. Haley Barbour appointed Roger Wicker to serve out his term until the special election this Nov. Mississippi law requires all federal offices be listed at the top of the ballot. However, the Mississippi secretary of state, Delbert Hosemann, plans to list the race at the bottom of the ballot.

Why? He says because its a special election. Critics, including the NY Times, claim its a trick to get voters – primarily Democrats – to overlook the race.

This race is tight. Former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, a Democrat, has been running close to Senator Wicker, a Republican, in the polls. Read more.
