The annual Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) statistics for 2014 show a 9.6% reduction in index crimes and indicate the number of violent crimes in Escambia County decreased by 1.2% from 1786 in 2013 to 1761 in 2014. To place that in perspective, in 2008, the year before Sheriff David Morgan took office, there were 2217 violent crimes.
The 2014 UCR statistics were submitted to and accepted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Other positive trends included a 17.3% decrease in robbery, a 15.1% drop in burglaries and an over 2 million dollar drop in the value of stolen property.
Escambia County Sheriff Morgan today applauded the work that has been done to reduce crime in our community, “With our limited resources, we are focusing on violent crime. Our continued goal is to make Escambia County safe and improving the quality of life for our families and businesses.Much of our success in reducing crime is due to our partnerships with the communities we serve. We encourage citizens to form or join Neighborhood Watch groups and report suspicious activity to Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers. Let’s work together to make Escambia County a better place to work, worship and play.â€
