Evers wounds, maybe kills, consolidation

NorthEscambia.com reports that the Town of Century has withdrawn its support for a plan to consolidate Century, Pensacola and Escambia County under one unified government. Council members are claiming that Escambia All for One misrepresented the initiative.

State Rep. Greg Evers is behind the withdrawal. He has convinced the Century town council that it will have to pay for the consolidation study committee, even though Escambia All for One assured them that the town would have no financial obligation.

Evers – who lives in Okaloosa County – wants to run for Durell Peaden’s state senate seat in 2010. Blocking consolidation in Escambia County wins Evers support of the county workers and law enforcement unions.
