Last night, the Pensacola Police Department released a statement that Pensacola man, Alonzo Thompkins, had been charged with aggravated child abuse after police responded to a residence this morning and found a child not breathing.
According to the report, Thompkins was left alone Monday morning with the two-year-old male, who was the son of Thompkins’ girlfriend. The mother called police around 9 a.m. after she returned home and found her son was not breathing. An initial investigation determined the deceased child had multiple injuries. The crimes statistics released yesterday by the City revealed a 25-percent rise in domestic violence crimes during the first six months of 2016.

Sixteen of the Domestic Violence victims were children of the attackers. The majority of the DV offenders, 32.6 percent, were co-habitants in the residence.
According to the Department of Justice, only about half of the domestic violence cases are ever reported to law enforcement. The actual domestic violence cases in the City may be double the PPD statistics.
