On Thursday, June 2, the Escambia Board of County Commissioners were briefed by County Administrator Janice Gilley and her leadership team on the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to public records received by Inweekly this afternoon, the county on that day had 22 employees that had tested positive, 44 awaiting results, 17 quarantined, 15 on extended leave and 38 working from home.
Two departments have been hit the hardest, especially when compared to the Monday, June 29 report.
Public Safety includes Emergency Communications, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Rescue and Pensacola Beach Lifeguards.

Ok, lets say the number of positive tests are actually double what’s being reported, that’s still only 1.6% of the county population. Hardly worth shutting down our community and decimating the economy.
These numbers should be questioned. As of today for example – positive case at animal Shelter. Another quarantined at the Shelter waiting on results. The numbers at ECAT are questionable on the waiting on results and quarantined.
Numbers creeping up 👆
Please point out the gross negligence. Only 0.8% of the county has tested positive for the virus.
Our County’s gross incompetence, and negligence in handling this situation is deplorable. Janice Gilley should be fired immediately and the BOCC’s should have consequences as well for doing nothing to protect their residents. They have lied to us to keep from having to take any actions. Every one of them should be ashamed. I’ve lived in District 4 for 60 years and I have never seen such incompetence from a county administrator as we are seeing from Janice Gilley.
